Differences between
Civil Services exam (IAS, IPS, IRAS  etc)
Appendix3 IREM exam (SSO, TIA, ISA )
1. conducted by UPSC - Union Public Service Commission
1.  Conducted by Railway Board
2. From Notification (07.02.2018) to Results (14.05.2019)  (Includes Prelims, Mains and Interview) -- Time taken - 15 months
2. From Notification (31.07.2018) to Results (Approx. September, 2019) -- One stage only i.e., Descriptive examination.  Time taken - 17 months
3. No of candidates - Approx 8 lakh candidates in Prelims.   10500 candidates in Mains and 2000 candidates in Interview.  Finally selected candidates 850
3. No of candidates - Approx 2300 candidates.  Finally qualified candidates 400
4. Stages:  3 Stages : Prelims, Mains and Interview 

4. Stages:  Only One stage - Descriptive type Examination

5. Mains Examination:  74 days for evaluation and tabulation of 10500 candidates  
5. Mains Examination:  Approx 250 days for evaluation and tabulation of 2300 candidates  
6. Finally  - 8 lakhs candidates (applied)  to 850 candidates (qualified) in 15 months in 3 stages of Selection i.e., Prelims, mains and Interview
6. Finally  - 2300 candidates (applied)  to 400 candidates (qualified) in 17 months in 1 stage i.e., Descriptive examination

Note:

Not judging  the efficiency of Railway organization.  Expecting to give reasonable priority for speedy evaluation and in turn reduce the process time between the date of notification to the date of results, in view of lot of vacancies in Supervisory cadre in Accounts Dept in Indian Railways and importance of career progression of the staff.

  • 393 candidates are passed out of 2255 total candidates applied. Pass percentage is 17 %
  •  
  • 878 candidates are absent out of total 2255 candidates. That is 39 % candidates are absent for appearing the examination.

  • That means 29 % candidates (393 candidates) are passed out of 1377 (2255-878) candidates appeared the examination

Exemption – Common for both OC & SC/ST candidates
 A candidate who fails in the examination but shows marked excellence in any subject by obtaining not less than 60 per cent of the maximum marks of that subject will be exempted from further examination in that subject in subsequent examinations.
