1️⃣ What is the Appendix2 (IREM) Examination?
· It is a departmental qualifying examination for promotion beyond Accounts Clerks up to Accounts Assistants.
· Ensures knowledge in Bookkeeping, Accounting, Budget, Stores, Workshop, and Traffic Accounts.
2️⃣ What are the Papers in Appendix–2 Examination?
· Two mandatory objective papers:
· (a) Elementary Book Keeping, English Comprehension & Reasoning.
· (b) General Rules and Procedures covering Traffic Accounts, Expenditure, Stores, Workshop, Books & Budget.
3️⃣ What is the Passing Criteria?
· Minimum 40% marks in each paper are required to pass.
· (Effective from the November 1956 examination onwards).
4️⃣ How is the Examination Conducted?
· Conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
· Managed through Examination Conducting Agency (ECA) via Railway Recruitment Board (RRB).
· A single Nodal Railway conducts it each calendar year as decided by the Railway Board.

5️⃣ How Many Chances are Allowed?

6️⃣ Special Rule for Directly Recruited JAAs
· JAAs must pass Appendix–2 within two chances / three years of joining.
· Failure may lead to termination of service.
· GM may grant a third chance on FA&CAO’s recommendation within four years.
· Authority: Railway Board Letter No. 2004/AC-II/20/5 dated 20.10.2004.
7️⃣ Service Requirements
· At least 6 months service in Railway Accounts Office required.
· GM may waive this condition in exceptional cases.
8️⃣ Temporary Employees
· Temporary employees can appear for the examination.
· Passing does not guarantee absorption into permanent cadre.
9️⃣ Subject Exemption
· Candidates scoring 50% or more in a subject may be exempted from reappearing in that subject.
๐ Counting of Chances
· Permission to appear counts as a chance, even if not attended.
· If withdrawn and accepted by GM, it will not be counted.
11️⃣ Missed Attempt Waiver
· If unable to attend due to valid reasons (like medical), apply to GM within 15 days of exam’s last date.
· Must attach Medical Certificate as per IRMM Vol. I.
12️⃣ Alteration of Rules
· Only Railway Board can modify or amend these rules.

Papers: Two objective papers —

1️⃣ Exemption from Earlier Attempts
Query:
Some candidates got exemptions in earlier manual papers — like General Rules & Procedures (GRP), Book Keeping, and Optional Subjects. Will those exemptions still be valid for the new Computer Based Test (CBT) pattern?
Answer:
No. Those earlier exemptions will not be valid anymore.
Previously, there were three manual papers (Book Keeping, GRP and Optional).
Now there are only two CBT papers:
1. Elementary Book Keeping + English Comprehension + Reasoning
2. GRP covering all areas.
Hence, earlier exemptions cannot be carried forward.

2️⃣ Duration of Examination
Query:
Earlier, each of the three papers lasted 3 hours. What will be the duration of the new CBT papers?
Answer:
Each CBT paper will be of 2 hours duration, just like the Appendix-III (IREM) exam.

3️⃣ Negative Marking
Query:
Earlier Railway Board’s letter (17-12-2019) said there is no negative marking in the Appendix-II exam. Will that rule continue under the new objective pattern?
Answer:
Yes. There will be no negative marking, as per the existing policy.

4️⃣ Eligibility & Passing Marks
Query:
What are the latest rules for eligibility and minimum passing marks for General, SC, ST and PwD candidates?
Answer:
There is no change. It will be as per the existing Railway Board policy.
