  1. Redevelop and regenerate city core area by the redevelopment of Railway Station.


  1.  Multi-modal integration and the seamless transfer of passengers from one mode to another mode.

  •  Floated Tender for redeveloping the Secunderabad Railway Station (June 2022)

  • Estimated cost - Rs. 653 Crores

  • Executed on EPC mode.  (Engineering Procurement & Construction ). The bidder is responsible for designing, Procuring the equipment or machinery, and Constructing and commissioning the project. 

  • Target period : 3 Years from the date of award of the Tender. 

  • Zonal Railway (SCR) is the responsibility as IRSDC is closed by the Indian Railways. 

  • North side of Railway Station - 22516 Square meters - G + 3 floors 

  • South side of Railway Station - 14792 Square meters - G + 3 floors. 

  • Multi-level parking - 5 levels the north of Railway Station

  • Special entry and exit lanes (drop off and pick up ) separately. 

  • 5000 kv solar power plant. 

  •  Double storey sky concourse of 108 meters in width.  First-tier for passengers and Second tier for the Public as a rooftop plaza of 24604 square meters. 

  • Two travelators (walkways) at Southside (Main Building) and North Side.  


  • Connecting with skyway of East and West Metro (Hyderabad Metro) Stations.

ICF  -  Integral Coach Factory 



  •  One of the earliest Production Units of Independent India.  

  • Inaugurated by the First PM of India Shri Jawaharlal Nehru on 02.10.1955

  • Area: 511 Acres 

  • Employees: Nearly 10000

  • In 1955 Installed capacity: 350 Coaches per Year

  • 1990 Year Turn over: 1000 Coaches

  • Present Turnover: More than 4000 Coaches per Year 

  • Every day - 11 Coaches 

  • Every Two hours - 1 Coach 

  • Cumulative Turnover since inception: 68000 Coaches  - Highest by any Rail Coach Manufacturer in the World

  • Export:  Exported more than750 Coaches, Shells & Components to countries such as Thailand, Burma, Taiwan, Zambia, Philippines, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Mozambique, Malaysia, Angola & Sri Lank. 

  • Green Producer:  

  1. Creation of exclusive green forests in the ICF surroundings

  2. Installation of Windmills & Solar panels for generation of Electricity 

  3. Zero discharge factory 

  4. Green Workshop 

  5. Only organization in IndianRailways to have completely neutralized green house gas emission due to its industrial activity and achieved Carbon negative status.

  • LHB Coaches Rake cost - Rs. 40 Crores

  • 2009-14 - Manufactured 1866 LHB Coaches

  • 2014-19 - Manufactured 9932 LHB Coaches 

LHB Coaches: 

  • LHB stands for Linke Hofmann Busch

  • LHB Coaches - German designed one

  • 130 Kms per hour 

  • However this technology is almost two decades old. 

Advantages of LHB over ICF Coaches: 

  1. Higher speed - 160 km per hour (110 kmph of ICF )

  2. Anti telescopic -  In the event of accidents, these coaches do not climb on top of each other or get tangled like ICF Coaches, thereby minimizing loss of life and property.  Because they use CBC - Center Buffer Coupling (Dual Buffer System in ICF Coaches) 

  3. More seating capacity - 1.7 meters longer than ICF coaches

  4. Equipped with FIAT bogie, which has lesser moving parts than the ICF Coaches. 

  5. Easier to haul because the weight per meter is less than ICF Coaches. 

  6. Environmentally friendly bio toilets - CDTS - Controlled Discharge Toilet system

  7. Using Advanced Pneumatic Disc Brake System for efficient braking at higher speeds. 

  8. Noise is 40 % less than the ICF Coaches.

Latest update on May 2022


  • To be completed by June 2023 (90 % of DFC). That is 2750 RKM (Route Kilo Meters) of the Eastern DFC and Western DFC.  

  • The initial plan was to make both DFCs operational by June 2022-end, but the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent slowing down of work at sites have resulted in the deadlines being pushed ahead.

 

  • Once completed, Coal, Food grain, and Export-Import Freight movement are expected to get a boost. 

 

  • Managing Director of DFCCIL - Shri Ravindra Kumar Jain 

 

  • Presently - 100 trains running on WDFC and 60 trains on EDFC.  Once completed the entire project, it may increase to 150 trains and 100 trains respectively.  

  

  • The biggest gain is that the freight movement from ports in Gujarat to New Delhi has been cut down by a day.  


  • EDFC  - 1875 RKM  From Ludhiana (Punjab) to Dankuni (West Bengal) covering Punjab, Haryana, UP, Bihar, and Jharkhand, West Bengal. 

 

  • WDFC - 1506 RKM.  From Dadri (UP) to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (Mumbai) covering UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. 

 

  • Average speed - EDFC - 65 km per hour

 

  • Average speed - WDFC - 41 km per hour 


  • Estimated Cost - 1,24,000 Crores. 

 

  • Cumulative CAPEX (up to 31.03.2022) - Rs. 89,342 Cr

Project Utkrisht


  •  Under this Project, IR is upgrading the passenger coaches of identified rakes with passenger-friendly amenities and modern features.


  • This Project is providing facilities for ICF type Coaches 


  • The first train under Project Utkrish is Kalka Mail (12311/12312) HWH-Howrah - KLK- Kalka on 02.10.2018 on the auspicious occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.    

  

  • Initiated in 2018-19. 66 pairs of trains (140 rakes)  

 

  • Railways have plans to develop 640 Utkrisht rakes as part of the up-gradation of its mail/express trains in the next two years at a cost of Rs 400 crore.

 

  • The approximate cost is Rs. 60 Lakhs per Rake

 

  • Utkrisht R Rakes.  R stands for refurbished. 


  • Salient features of the Newly upgraded Rakes are as follows: 



  1. Vinyl wrapping of the doorway and gangway along with a big size mirror.  

  2. Provision of Fire extinguishers 

  3. Swachhata logo and stickers

  4. New color scheme

  5. Bottle holder, new ladders, GreenGo stickers 

  6. Ceiling fan in Non AC Sleeper coach painted with White color. 

  7. Braille signage and night glow stickers

  8. LED panel lighting in AC Coaches. 

  9. “Swachh Rail Toilet” (SRT) - A Hybrid Design Bio Toilet innovated by Indian Railway has been fitted in all coaches, giving an odorless experience.
