Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat - SBM - Swachh Bharat Mission

 


Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat  


  • SBM stands for Swachh Bharat Mission  

  • SBM launched on 2nd October, 2014 by PM of India 

  • 2019 - Ministry of Railways adjudged as Best Ministry 


 Reforms in Cleanliness  

  • Mechanized cleaning of Trains 

  • Coach Mitra - quick disposal of passenger grievances 

  • Bio-Toilets (environment friendly) 

  • Cleanliness of Railway Stations 

  • Third-party Audit/Survey and Passengers feedback 

  • Mechanized laundry for Bed linen 

  • SBD - Standard Bid Document in GCC for Services - Housekeeping activity   

Initiatives:  

  • OBHS - On Board Housekeeping Services - cleaning of Coach toilets, doorways, aisles and Passenger Compartments during the run of Trains - Provided in 1100 pairs of Trains 

  • Mechanized cleaning of Coaches: 155 Coaching Depots by professional agencies 

  • ACWP - Automatic Coach Washing Plants - Installed at 23 Major Coaching Depots - Reducing water consumption, recycling of water  

  • CTS - Clean Train Station  - Cleaning of toilets during their scheduled stoppages enroute at nominated 39 Railway Stations. 

 

  • Coach Mitra: 

  1. Clean My Coach scheme introduced in 2016-17

  2. Clean My Coach upgraded to Coach Mitra - 2017-18  

  3. Single window interface to register all coach-related requirements of passengers traveling in reserved coaches 

  4. 1060 pairs of Trains 

  5. Software developed by CRIS - Centre for Railway Information Systems 

  6. A satisfaction code (like OTP - One-Time Password) is shared by passengers after work. 

  7. Railways will monitor Closure Type (closed with Code) and Response Time. 

  8. In 2019-20  - 65% of grievances were closed with Satisfaction Code 

  9. A unique example in the Government sector - Customer empowerment in Railways

Bio-Toilets  

  1. Developed jointly by Indian Railways and DRDO - Defence Research & Development Organization

  2. Keeping Station premises and Tracks clean 

  3. The Environment-friendly, low-cost & robust technology

  5. All BG Passenger coaches  - Fitted with Bio-Toilets 

  6. Bio-vacuum toilets - 729 coaches - 2019-20

  2. Rag picking & Garbage disposal Contracts  - 1310 Railway Stations 

  3. Concrete washable aprons on Platform tracks - Facilitate washing with water jets 

  4. Pay & Use Toilets  - 370 Railway Stations 

  5. CCTVs - Closed Circuit TeleVision - 700 Railway Stations  

  6. Plastic Bottle Crushing machines - 500 Numbers in 370 Railway Stations  

  7. Third-party Audit cum Survey 

  8. Cleanliness drives and awareness campaigns with the help of Social & Charitable Organizations
