PL Number - Price List Number

 

  • PL Number stands for Price List Number 

  • Object: To recognize the material distinctly 

  • Applicable for All Stock items  (Not for Non-Stock Items)

  • Unified PL - Common for all Zonal Railways & Production Units  

  • Codification - 3 types. Fully Significant, Semi-Significant, and Non Significant  

  • Fully Significant - All digits signify some property of the material - To adopt it, requires a large number of digits which may not be manageable.  

  • Semi-Significant - The first group signifies the property of the material and the Second group has no significance - Indian Railways Follows it - 8 Digits

  • Non-Significant - All digits have no significance.

The remainder is the check digit

  • In case the remainder is two digits, the rightmost digit is the Check Digit.    

  • Above example, If the last digit ‘0’ is correct, the computer will accept it, otherwise, it is rejected.  

  • Modulus 11 - adopted to check the digit of the PF number - Provident Fund number too.
