Strategy for Appendix2 Exam and Appendix3 Exam Candidates

Dear Appendix-2 and Appendix-3 Exam Aspirants,

I truly understand your anxiety about the exam date — it’s been a long wait, and your concern is absolutely justified. I’ve received numerous messages expressing this worry. But remember, the exam will definitely happen — sooner or later. There’s no doubt about it. So don’t wait for the date — start your preparation right now!

Both these exams are gateways to a brighter career in Indian Railways. Just imagine — clearing the Appendix-3 Exam and becoming a Senior Section Officer (Accounts) can take you to Grade Pay 5400 within a few years. That’s a remarkable jump from GP 1900 or 2800 to 5400 — equivalent to Senior Scale Gazetted Officers like SPOs or SMMs in other departments.

Remember, the Appendix3exam.com blog was launched back in 2014 with the single aim of supporting aspirants like you. Today, it serves as a learning hub for all departmental exams.  The sources are:

• Blog (Notes & Key Points)
• YouTube Channel (Video Lessons)
• WhatsApp Groups (Community Learning)
• MCQ Application (2000 + Questions)
• Google Search & AI Tools (Self-Study Aid)

During our days, none of these resources were available — only printed books! You are in a far better learning ecosystem. However, be wise — too much information can confuse you. Filter and follow reliable sources only.

On my part, I’ll continue to share regular study materials, updates, and guidance here. A common group for Appendix-2 and Appendix-3 aspirants is intentional — because the syllabus overlaps significantly. My advice for Appendix-2 aspirants: prepare at Appendix-3 standard. Once you clear Appendix-2, you’ll find Appendix-3 and LDCE much easier to conquer.

Passing marks are 45%. But aim higher!
If you score 60% or above in mock exams, confidence begins.
If you reach 80% or more, success is almost certain — you can feel as if you’ve already cleared the real exam!

Keep testing yourself, refine your strategy, and push for 80%+ before the final exam.
Then you’ll face it with confidence, not tension.

Work hard, stay disciplined, and stay inspired. There is no shortcut to success — only consistent hard work combined with smart strategy.

With best wishes,

Nageswara Rao

How to Crack the Examination

Note:
1.   Many prospecting candidates appearing for the next Appendix III (IREM) examination  requested me to give tips to crack the examination. The tips I give below are just illustrative and general in nature, not exhaustive.
2.                       I advise the candidates to design their own plan, depending  on their knowledge, skills, comfortability, etc. as every human being is unique.

How to Crack the Examination

Ø Be  familiar with the syllabus and keep the same on study table.

Ø  Collect the hard copy of Study material. Take print of all soft copies. It’s one time investment.

Ø  Don’t depend on soft copy of the material in the computers.  It remains there. Will not get registered in your memory.

Ø  Practice, practice and practice is what you need. There are no shortcuts to success.

Ø  Group Study is the best idea , if like-minded friends are writing the same examination.

Ø Preparing Notes is a wonderful strategy. I assure you 100 %, that this single tip will  make you sit  in the list of successful candidates.

Ø Turn off your gadgets, i.e., Mobile, TV, Computer ,etc., as far as possible.

Ø Stay away from Social networking like Whatsapp, Facebook, etc., as much as possible. ( I agree, it’s not possible.  keep a distance from them atleast during study time)

How to attempt the with Books question paper of Optionals in Appendix III (IREM) exam - Here is the expert guidance offered by Ms.Usha Raman, Faculty at University of Hyderabad

How to attempt the “With Books” question paper in Appendix III A Examination
(Excerpts from the article “Have  you ever written on open book or take-home examination” by Usha Raman.  The article is published on 08th April, 2013 in Hindu Newspaper. For full article refer the given link

ü  The questions were designed in a way such that the answers would not be readily available from any single text or source.

ü  Students should apply their own ideas to the questions before they could come with answers in such examinations.

ü  The questions themselves were fairly open-ended, and as such, did not have any one “correct” answer.

ü  A few were excited at the possibility of such open-endedness.

ü  As we progress through higher levels of education, we need to develop the ability to tackle a variety of question formats and test patterns.

ü  Questions that draw on a combination of information recall and critical thinking, which demand that we draw not only on what has been taught overtly in a course, but also on a broader understanding of issues and also our own experience.

ü  Obviously, these questions do not have a single correct answer.

ü  They may be answered from a variety of perspectives and bring in widely divergent pieces of information.

ü  It’s about seeing for yourself if you are good enough to get to the next level. It’s up to you to set the boundaries of the answer (within reasonable limits of course) and think in unexpected ways. In fact, that is the only expectation—that you will do the unexpected.
