Pension Schemes – Indian Railways
Old Pension Scheme (OPS): Effective from 01.04.1957; introduced on 16.11.1957 with retrospective effect. Railway Board letter dated 16.11.1957.
National Pension System (NPS): Effective from 01.01.2004. Railway Board letter dated 31.12.2003 (RBE 225/2003).
Unified Pension Scheme (UPS): Effective from 01.04.2025; an option under NPS for eligible employees. Railway Board letter dated 18.03.2025 (RBE 22/2025). UPS is an optional scheme under NPS, not a replacement for NPS.
